Lights On, Fans Off Turn on every interior light and lamp; however, ensure all ceiling fans are turned off to avoid motion blur in photos.

  • Replace Bulbs: Ensure all light bulbs work and match in color temperature (e.g., all "warm white" or all "daylight") to prevent inconsistent color casts in photos.

  • Open Windows: Fully open all blinds, curtains, and shades to maximize natural light.

  • Depersonalize: Remove family photos, religious artifacts, and personalized decor.

  • Declutter Surfaces: Clear floors of toys, shoes, and small rugs. Hide all visible power cords, chargers, and remote controls.

  • Turn Off Screens: Switch off all televisions and computer monitors. 

Kitchen

  • Clear Counters: Remove almost everything from the counters, including small appliances (toasters, blenders), dish soap, sponges, and drying racks.

  • Fridge Cleanup: Clear the refrigerator exterior completely of magnets, photos, and notes.

  • Empty Sink: Ensure the sink is empty and clean; put all dishes away in the dishwasher.

  • Hide Trash: Move garbage cans into a closet or the garage. 

Bathrooms

  • Toilet Lids Down: This is a critical and frequently requested step by photographers.

  • Clear Vanities: Remove all personal hygiene items (toothbrushes, razors, medication bottles) from counters and showers.

  • Fresh Towels: Hang matching, neatly folded towels; remove used bathmats and floor rugs to show more floor space.

  • Clean Mirrors: Ensure mirrors and glass shower doors are streak-free. 

Bedrooms & Living Areas

  • Make Beds: Ensure bedding is smooth and wrinkle-free; use decorative pillows to add appeal.

  • Nightstands: Clear everything except for a lamp and perhaps one simple decorative item.

  • Fluff Pillows: Straighten and fluff all sofa cushions and throw pillows. 

Exterior & Pets

  • Clear Driveway: Move all vehicles away from the front of the house and out of the driveway.

  • Hide Pet Gear: Put away pet beds, food bowls, toys, and litter boxes.

  • Curb Appeal: Mow the lawn, trim bushes, and sweep walkways. Hide garden hoses, lawn tools, and exterior trash bins.

  • Pools/Patios: If applicable, remove pool covers and cleaning equipment. Open patio umbrellas and arrange outdoor furniture neatly
